I wanted to become a SLP since I was about 12 years old and babysitting a cousin who was delayed in motor speech development! I would work on trying to get him to imitate me and my mom told me that I could have a career in doing just that! I went to Michigan State University for both my Undergraduate and Master's degrees in Speech Language Pathology. I began working at Beaumont hospital as a SLP from 2003-2008. In 2008 I became supervisor of the department and continued to manage the team as well as treat patients until 2020. My areas of expertise started out as focusing on motor speech delays, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and early language development. When I had my middle child prematurely 12 years ago, my experience with infants with feeding problems led me to expand my interests towards swallowing disorders with children and their families. My interest in OT emerged when I learned about how helpful sensory integration based therapy was to a family member of mine who had been diagnosed with Autism. From there, I pursued a research assistant position with the Autism Lab at Michigan State where I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology. My love for the profession blossomed as I learned how dynamic, challenging, and rewarding this career could be throughout my graduate studies at Western Michigan University. I work with a wide range of populations and diagnoses, but particularly enjoy the diversity of Sensory Processing Disorder and regulation challenges, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and sensory/oral motor feeding difficulties.
